Sources & methodology

CityTimeHub shows local time and prayer times for a chosen city. Prayer times depend on that city’s coordinates, the calendar date, and the calculation settings used for the request. Times are for guidance and daily organisation — they are not a substitute for a mosque’s announced timetable for congregational prayer.

How prayer times are produced

For the selected city and date, CityTimeHub requests timings from the AlAdhan Prayer Times API, using the city’s latitude and longitude together with a calculation method and an Asr school value stored for that city (or a site default when a value is not set). The same AlAdhan response supplies sunrise and sunset, and the Hijri date shown alongside the Gregorian date.

Different recognised methods can produce a limited difference between sources, most often for Fajr and Isha. Asr may also differ according to the school setting. A small difference does not by itself mean one timetable is wrong; it usually reflects different calculation conventions.

Congregation and local practice

For praying with a specific mosque community, that mosque’s announced timetable remains the practical reference. A mosque may follow a method or schedule suited to its own congregation. Use CityTimeHub to follow the day’s times for a city, watch daily change, and plan ahead — then follow the mosque’s announcement for the congregation itself.

Local clocks and time zones

Live clocks on CityTimeHub are computed in your browser with the platform’s Intl.DateTimeFormat API, using each city’s IANA time-zone identifier (for example Africa/Cairo). For some worldwide places without a stored zone, the time zone may be taken from the AlAdhan response metadata and then used the same way. No separate clock-server API is used for the ticking display.

What we rely on

  • Prayer times, sunrise/sunset, and Hijri date — AlAdhan Prayer Times API (api.aladhan.com).
  • Local clock display — browser Intl.DateTimeFormat with IANA time-zone names associated with each city (and, when needed, the zone returned by AlAdhan).
